No-one could doubt the amazing generosity of our Parish Community. We would have to invent a new word to express our thanks to those who, in a wonderful way, share their resources with the poor of the earth.
For some time, however, concern has been raised about the number of requests for second offerings. It does seem, at times, that with calls for help from abroad and from home, it is impossible to come to mass without being asked to give again and again.
The Pastoral Council and Finance Team are working to bring some balance and fairness to this process and this work is ongoing. But since we are beginning our annual pilgrimage of Lent this week, we had to make an interim decision about these requests for help, and the focus we should take at this time.
Each year, CAFOD asks for two offerings. We have decided that we will allow only one this year and hold the link with the Family Fast Day.
We have also decided to strengthen our commitment to our Twin Diocese of BAMENDA, with a very direct focus of supporting their efforts to build a clinic which will provide much needed health care to the poorest in the Diocese. More information on this project is available in the porch, alongside images of the joy that was created by last years support to Aid to the Church in Need.
We recommend these two works of love to the whole parish community. In doing so, we have no desire to limit individual support for other charitable works. In this regard, we would appreciate positive feedback about the direction we should be taking in the future.
Thank You, once again, for all you do.
Happy Lent! FD
