Preaching, Teaching and Deeds of Power, are three expressions of one Activity- Kingdom Making. One river breaks into three streams, but Teaching comes First.
As the disciples go, individuals and communities are urged and taught to rethink the taboos around clean and unclean boundaries. All should repent. The emphasis on 'all' and the need to "think in a completely different way". A new community is on its way with a fresh understanding of what it really means to be Holy. Instead of being afraid of what they don't know, they are to mirror Gods' boundless compassion and mercy. As the strange and the estranged re-enter the community they will only stay if a new consciousness awaits them. Walking stick and sandals remind the disciples not to settle in one place. One tunic, a symbol for single mindedness. Without bread, bag or money, they become one with those in need. Their poverty evokes the very compassion they are trying to elicit. Whoever welcomes you welcomes Me! Hospitality is the cornerstone of the new community. Finally they are not to fight with those who don't get it yet. And no need for retaliation. God moves on to where His invitation will be heard. So should we. From Rumi: This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some new awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they're a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture. Still, treat each guest honourably. They may be clearing you out for some new delight. This dark thought, this shame, this malice, Meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, Because Each has been sent As a Guide From the Beyond.

This is a beautiful article and provides me with a lot of scope for thought and reflection on my own weaknesses. Thank you.
